Weekend Events in Tuscaloosa
The cold never bothered me anyway- yeah right! It has been a frigid week here in Tuscaloosa, but that isn’t stopping the weekend from being the best it can be! With temperatures being very low, we could all use a little bit of an indoor escape. Let’s take a look at how you can stay warm and cozy while also having a blast!
Inventions at CHOM
Does your little one have a creative mind? Thanks to the Children’s Hands-On Museum, your child can invent something themselves! CHOM is hosting “Inventions,” an event centered around learning about everyday items created by African American inventors! You can also explore their Black History Month exhibit while adhering to social distancing precautions. Plus, all activities are being held indoors to ensure your warmth and satisfaction!
In the climax of Civil Rights month, the Kentuck Art Center is hosting a limited-time exhibition- Good Trouble: Civil Rights Past and Present. The gallery spans the Museum, Teer, and SoNo Galleries and features the work of at least seven Alabama Black artists. The Kentuck Art Center hopes that “Good Trouble” achieves its goals to highlight Black voices, provide a space for these artists’ works to continue the conversation about the Civil Rights Movement past and present, and to inspire empathy and the desire for change through the visual storytelling of these Black artists. If you want to connect with the art, you can visit the exhibition now through March 26th.
Flipping Through Friday
The University of Alabama’s elite gymnastics team takes on LSU at 7:30 pm this Friday, Feb.19th, at the Coleman Coliseum. Looking for an entertaining escape from the freezing outdoors? Coleman Coliseum is the perfect spot for you! Not to mention, you can also grab a Coke and a hotdog while you’re at it! Ticket sales will begin an hour and a half before the start of the meet and will be located inside the main lobby of Coleman Coliseum. If you can’t attend in person, the meet will be streamed live on SECNetwork+.
Maybe you love the outdoors and don’t mind a little chill. The Buddy Powell Pavillion is hosting its Saturday Outdoor Music Series this Saturday, Feb. 20th, from 1 pm to 4 pm. With highs being in the 50s, a warm coat and a couple of blankets might be in your future! Acts include Triple Crown, Soapy & Andrew, and MarK Ultras Thought Police. Remember to wear your mask and bring your own chair!
